Do I need to bring a partner?
You don't need to bring a partner to join us.
In an effort to ensure balanced classes with even numbers of leads and follows, all tickets are request-only until we approve them.
This helps open the classes up to as many people as possible, while also ensuring a great experience for all dancers.

Who will I dance with?
In Swing dance it is custom to change partners regularly. This is a little different than in other forms of dancing, e.g. ballroom. Rather than everyone having 'their' designated partner and dancing and practicing only with them, it is normal to change partners after every song - both in class and at social dances. Please expect to change dance partners regularly during our classes and social dances - whether you are arriving with a partner or solo.
I have other dance experience (ballroom, jive, salsa, etc.) - can I join the intermediate class?

I'm feeling a wee bit nervous....
No pressure! We love welcoming new dancers, and you’ll find yourself in great company among lots of other new people. Our teachers and our more experienced dancers will be happy to welcome you in!
Why do people swing dance?
- A great way to meet new people or spend time with friends
- It's great exercise and super fun
- The music makes your heart happy and your feet want to dance
- Love to learn – Lindy Hop, Charleston & Shim Sham always offer something unique and new to learn!
- It's a great way to travel: Swing dancing (especially Lindy Hop) has become a very diverse and matured art form. There are swing dance clubs in practically every major city – some are small, others are large. In fact, many dancers go on excursions to other cities to do workshops or just socialize and explore a city’s swing dance scene when they are travelling.

I need a ride - can you help?
We love ride-sharing! It's great fun and great for our environment!
We don't organize rides, but our facebook group is a great way to get in touch with others and ask for a ride.
Don't be shy and ask - we've got a kind group of dancers here who are happy to help each other out.

I need childcare - can you help?
There are several parents in the group. We don't offer or organize childcare, but we are happy to put you in touch with other parents, as many are co-organizing and sharing the cost of babysitters.
What shoes & clothing should I wear?
Swing dance is most fun in comfortable, fairly flat shows that slide well.
Some of us use canvas sneakers, ballet flats, low & wide heels, others use dress-shoes... some of us even dance in chucks with a sock over the tow portion.
If you're not sure, just bring 2-3 pairs to the first class and test them out :)

What should I bring?
You don't need much to swing-dance - simply bring
- comfy shoes
- a water bottle
- maybe a snack?
- an open mind

When does the next class / event happen?
We post upcoming classes and social dances here as soon as they are confirmed.
We also share events in our facebook group , and via our mailing list.
Joining the mailing list is by far the best way to make sure you hear about all upcoming events.
We usually host classes starting in January, March and September. We take a break during the summer, but will often go to Halifax together to dance with people there. These mini-roadtrips get organized via facebook / email and does not get posted to this website as they are very spontaneous.
